FRIDAY,
SEPTEMBER 7

Members of the 1968 team will be
honored at a private luncheon.
The first 10,000 fans attending the
Tigers vs. Cardinals game at 7:10
p.m. will receive a pair of "Sockit
to 'em" socks, courtesy of Comerica
Bank. The phrase "Sockit to 'em"
was popular during the 1968 season
and appears on numerous pieces
of collateral and promotional items
from that season.

SATURDAY,
SEPTEMBER 8

Members of the 1968 team will be
honored during a special pregame
on field ceremony prior to the Tigers/
Cardinals 6:10 p.m. game
The first 20,000 fans in attendance
will receive a 1968 commemorative
road jersey, courtesy of Comerica
Bank.

SUNDAY,
SEPTEMBER 9

and 4, and to start Mickey Lolich in Game
7. The Tigers hit 10 home runs in the Series
including two from Jim Northrup, two from
Al Kaline, and one each from Willie Horton,
Dick McAuliffe, Norm Cash and even Mickey Lolich- the only homerun of his career!
After the first 4 games of the Series, the
Tigers were down 3 games to 1, to the heavily favored and defending World Champion
St. Louis Cardinals. In Game 5, the Tigers
trailed 3-2, when Lou Brock tried to score
standing up from second base, on a single
to left, but Horton threw a laser to Bill Freehan who tagged Brock out at the plate. That
play sparked a Tigers rally to win Game 5

as Lolich pitched shutout ball for the last 8
innings. In Game 6, McLain finally pitched
like he had most of the season, and the Tiger
bats came alive with a 10-run third inning,
including Northup's grand slam. That inning
tied the one-inning Series scoring record
set by the Philadelphia Athletics against the
Chicago Cubs in Game 4 of the 1929 Series.
Game 7 was played in St. Louis and was
a bit of a pitching duel with Gibson and Lolich pitching shutout ball through the first
six innings. In the seventh inning however,
the Tigers scored what would become the
game-winning run when with two out, Kaline and Cash singled. Northrup followed
with a long fly to center field, where defen-

Detroit Historical Society will hold
special exhibitions paying tribute to
