"I got into bartending like so many other bartenders-going to college and looking
for a job when my classes were finished and
during the busiest times on the weekend,"
says Catarino. "After college, though, I realized this was my calling." He enjoys the interaction with people and creating new drinks.

¾ ounce simple syrup
2 ounces Don Julio Blanco tequila

In contemporary parlance, "pub" denotes
a restaurant that focuses on the bar,
probably with a British or Irish theme.
But the real story goes way beyond that
image, and the founders of McShane's
Irish Pub knew that from the start.
Short for "public house," a true pub
provided food, beverage and a warm welcome to all who entered. When co-founders Sean McShane, Ryan McShane and
Bob Roberts created their public house,
they targeted Irish fare and atmosphere,
whiskey, service and fun, to provide an
enjoyable experience for everyone. To
make sure that all customers would have
a good time, they added a diversity of
fare and plenty of other beverages.
The pub started in Detroit's historic
Corktown district, on the corner of Michigan and Trumball avenues, just steps away
from Tiger Stadium, where the Detroit major league baseball team played until 1999.
McShane's now entertains customers at two
other locations, in Ypsilanti and Belleville.
"McShane's is a top destination for
customers going to sporting events or
concerts, as we offer a free shuttle service to the venue," says Kyle Catarino, bar
manager at the original location. "We are
also a popular watering hole for our loyal
and amazing residents of Corktown."
