One of Catarino's preferred cocktails is also a favorite at McShane's-an
Irish cocktail, the Tipperary. The classic,
which shares a name with an Irish town,
is made with Irish whisky, sweet vermouth and green Chartreuse. "We like to
use a Detroit whiskey or bourbon," says
Catarino.
As far as a favorite beer, he says, "It's
hard to beat a [Bell's] Two-Hearted."

And as for working at McShane's,
Catarino says, "I enjoy ... the diversity of our clientele.
We get customers from all over and it's especially nice
meeting people visiting from Ireland. They are always impressed with our Irish cuisine and selection
of Irish whiskeys."

most popular drinks; they are strong, delicious and
pair incredibly well with our menu, of course."
Russell has filled many roles in the restaurant industry, but bartending is one of her favorites. "I love
the social aspect of it. I get to talk to so many new and
interesting people. It's a fast-paced and creative environment with so much flexibility. It's the perfect
profession for me right now."
And Bakersfield seems to be the right fit for her,
too. "I enjoy Bakersfield because it seems like they
want to get involved in the industry," she says. In
addition to attending to the needs of the customer,
Bakersfield recognizes the workers who make the
wheels turn every day at other restaurants and bars.
"We are trying to seek out the late-night crowd, especially on Tuesdays, and encourage fellow service
people to come in and relax after a hard day at work."

Sarah Russell with "The Chester Avenue"

When Russell is the one relaxing on the other side of
the bar, her go-to cocktail is an Old Fashioned. "I feel like
everyone makes them just a little differently and they can
be so different depending on the bourbon you use."
But overall, she says, "I am a beer and whiskey gal.
My absolute favorite is an IPA with a shot of Jameson."

The Chester Avenue
"We are presenting one of our signature cocktails,
the Chester Avenue. It's a bourbon-based drink with
plenty of orange and an absinthe rinse. This cocktail
is a beautiful blend of Bulleit Bourbon, Cointreau, a
couple dashes of absinthe and Angostura Bitters, all
topped off with some ginger ale and garnished with
an orange peel. I thought this drink would be great
not only because of its orange color but because it is a
zesty, semi-sweet, refreshing cocktail, perfect to grab
on your way to the game, and the way back!"

From its inception in Cincinnati in 2012, Bakersfield
has been growing, now with more than a half-dozen locations from Charlotte to Detroit. With a menu
focusing on Mexican street food made fresh, like tacos, tostadas and tortas, the restaurant also features
a drink selection that delightfully complements the
fare. Think tequila and whiskey, plus their respective cocktails; Mexican, domestic and craft beer; and
more-for a perfect pairing or just to sip and relax.
"I believe what sets us apart from other restaurants is
our passion for serving the freshest and most high-quality food and drink in town," says Sarah Russell, bartender at Bakersfield Detroit on Woodward Avenue. "We are
a total scratch kitchen so everything from the tortillas to
the juices for our sour mixes are handmade!"
Besides margaritas (of course!), the Bakersfield
bar mixes up four signature craft cocktails. The menu
provides a grand selection of tequilas and American
whiskies.
"We are all about our margaritas!" Russell exclaims. "All the lemon and lime juice is fresh
squeezed in-house. Our margaritas are by far our
