over $400 Million in profits and taxes to the state
of Michigan, Spirits is one of Michigan's most valuable and significant industries. While many festivals
feature spirits at their events currently, the MFEA
is working together with the MSA and legislators to
make changes so more festivals could responsibility
include spirits at their events.
As you can see, summer festivals and spirits are
great partners because they're both responsible for
supporting the state economy and bringing people
together. Here are just a few of the summer events
that feature spirits:

What can you expect to find at these festivals?
Well, they're all a little different, but let's take a look
at three in particular.
The City of Owosso is the birthplace of James Oliver Curwood-editor, author and conservationist
who had a Norman chateau built on his property.
Each year since 1978, Owosso holds the CURWOOD
FESTIVAL in his honor. This is a time to celebrate
not only a distinguished local man but also the city
and its unique heritage. The festival is four days of
fun, homecoming, refreshment and education. Each
year at the Curwood Festival you'll find carnival
rides, craft vendors, a river race, nature-writing contest, historical reenactments, arts and crafts, food,
a fishing competition, a beautiful baby contest, the
election of a festival queen to represent the city, and
much more. This event truly has something for everyone.
THE LAKESHORE ART FESTIVAL in downtown
Muskegon pays tribute to the fact that this city has
been deeply engaged with art for more than a century. With a mixture of food, games, art, music, crafts,
street performers and children's activities, this is an
experience you don't want to miss. The festival also
features a number of interactive art stations and a juried competition of more than 300 artists. Muskegon
is dedicated to making this a fun, vibrant celebration
for the whole region, and they're committed to operating a sustainable, eco-friendly event. In the last
four years, the festival has been able to divert over
5,000 pounds of waste from area landfills.
In its 40th year, the GRAND RAPIDS POLISH
FESTIVAL is the oldest continuously-held festival
in Grand Rapids. Sponsored by the Polish Heritage
Society, this is a three-day jubilee meant to celebrate and honor Polish culture with an emphasis on
food, drinks, music and dancing. The festival is also a
time to educate the community about Polish history,
culture and heritage. Held at the Rosa Parks Circle
in downtown Grand rapids, festival-goers can enjoy
Polish baked goods, beer, food, and, of course, lots of
polka. The food is all made from scratch and some of
the proceeds go towards college scholarships for students of Polish descent.
