BOTTLE LOTTERIES:
HOW TO SCORE
SOUGHT-AFTER SPIRITS

Throughout the year, Virginia ABC
receives very limited quantities of highly
sought after spirits, such as Pappy Van
Winkle and Buffalo Trace to name a few.
These spirits are not sold in any store or
available for purchase online-instead,
these bottles are distributed through a
lottery system.
How do the lotteries work? Well, quite
simply. Customers wishing to have the
chance to purchase a bottle of the item
up for lottery just needs to fill out an
online entry form on the Virginia ABC
website during the time frame the lottery
is open. Don't worry if you can't enter
the lottery the minute it opens-it is
not a first-come, first-served system. All
entries submitted have an equal chance
of winning. Duplicate entries, however,
will be removed.
To enter, you must be 21 years of age or
older, a resident of Virginia or an activeduty military member on a permanent
duty station in Virginia. Eligibility will
be verified at the final point of sale.
Mixed beverage licensees may also enter
the lotteries as a percentage of lottery
bottles are set aside for those licensees.
Those are a separate drawing from the
general customer pool.
Winners of the lottery will be notified via
email that the bottle is being shipped to
the store indicated on the entry form.
Once the bottle arrives at the store,
Virginia ABC store staff will contact the
winner by phone or email to give the
good news that the bottle has arrived.

The Macallan
30 Year Sherry
Oak Scotch

Initially released in 2018,
Macallan 30-year-old is aged in
hand-selected Oloroso Sherry
casks from Jerez, Spain. This is a
prized single malt Speyside with a
smooth, robust flavor comprised
of orange, dried fruit, persimmon
and wood smoke.

Brora
38 Year
Scotch
$2,199.99
Brora's 38-yearold single malt is
more peat- and
smoke-forward
than other recent
releases from the
distiller. It is aged
in American oak
casks and refill
oak barrels from
Europe, and fewer
than 3,000 bottles
were produced. This whiskey
builds slowly on the nose with
suggestions of lemon peel and
fresh sod. The flavor is nutty with
undertones of citrus and allspice.

The Macallan
25 Year Sherry
Oak Scotch
$1,999.99
Macallan spares no expense, or
effort, in preparing this sherry-seasoned whiskey. Oak barrels,
from the U.S. and Europe, are
dried for two years before being
forwarded to Spain, where they're

used to age Oloroso Sherry for two
more years. Finally, the barrels are
returned to the distillery to meet
the scotch.

Clynelish
Select Reserve
Scotch

This is a special limited release of
2,946 bottles. Clynelish Select has
a soft, buttery bouquet, not unlike
custard, with hints of cracked
pepper. The mouthfeel is warm
and crisp. On the palate, there are
notes of cocoa and vanilla with a
hint of salt and red pepper.

Linkwood 37
Year Scotch
$899.99
Linkwood is a renowned distillery
from Elgin, in the Speyside region
of Scotland, that's been operating for nearly 200 years. The 37
Year release has a sweet, buttery
mouthfeel. The first tastes are
of peach and apple followed by
brighter notes of berry and dark
chocolate. The finish brings out
the herbal character of the scotch
with traces of salt and dried fruit.
