Reservoir Distillery started with a simple
concept: three 100% whiskies: 100%
wheat, 100% corn bourbon and 100%
rye. All provided individual appreciation
while proclaiming the difference in the
grain bills. But Reservoir didn't stop there.
Instead, creative minds have added new
spirits to the lineup, including limited
releases: Hunter & Scott bourbon, a blend
of corn, wheat and rye; spirits distilled
from brewing mashes (like Hardywood
Gingerbread Stout) to wed the essence
of beer and spirits; Maison de Cuivre, the
Reservoir bourbon finished in French
oak Merlot casks; and more. Visit the
tasting room for tasters, cocktails and
to learn the latest.

Sleepy Fox Distillery
Ashland

This cozy distillery tasting room makes
for an enjoyable destination. Given the
connection to Layne's Country Store,
visitors can enjoy Southern sandwiches
like the renowned country ham sandwich
and distinctive whoopie pies while
sampling the liquor in tasters or in
cocktails. The Sleepy Fox distillery (in
Lexington, Virginia) crafts 100%-corn
moonshine-clear and in flavors like
apple pie, peach, black cherry and redhot cinnamon-as well as bourbon,
maple whiskey and corn vodka. Sip,
sample and take your favorite bottle

Three Crosses Distilling
Powhatan

Community plays a leading role in this
family-run distillery in rural Powhatan,
west of Richmond. This means sourcing
ingredients locally-like the corn used
in Route 13 Moonshine, Black Chevron
Vodka and Three Crosses American

Whiskey and the rye for American
Whiskey. This means stocking tasting
room shelves with local products like
cheese and honey. And this means a
friendly, cozy tasting room serving tasting
flights or creative cocktails. Other Three
Crosses products include solera-aged
whiskey, rum, spiced rum and limited
releases like apple spiced rum.

G Trial & Error Distillery

Richmond

The distiller at Trial & Error believes in
coloring outside the lines. Though small,
the distillery puts out a variety of spirits:
silver rum, golden rum and a variety of
other rums, from spiced to citrus-flavored;
American grappa, that Italian-style grapebased after-dinner drink; classic gin and
Sloe berry gin; limoncello; maple whiskey;
and creative limited release liquors. The
modest tasting room offers samples of
available spirits as well as cocktails. Better
yet, it's located inside Bombolini Pasta
shop, which offers amazing fresh pasta,
entrées and sandwiches, served casually
on site or to go.

of ruby port from Portugal; the Modern
Gin with Oolong Tea; the Coffee Liqueur,
with local coffee but without a cloying
sweetness - or other new Virago spirits.
