UNCLE NEAREST 1856 PREMIUM WHISKEY This award-winning 100-proof Tennessee Whiskey, filtered with maple charcoal and aged in seared oak casks, is named for Nathan Green. Known by many as "Uncle Nearest," he was the man who by all accounts showed Jack Daniels how to make whiskey, in the 1850s. At Nearest Green distillery they call him the best whiskey maker the world never knew. No one knows exactly how he got the nickname Nearest, but we do know that he was a former slave who came to Tennessee from Maryland which, in the early days of the Republic, was a hub for whiskey production. Green was the first African-American distiller in the U.S., and he was responsible for perfecting the Lincoln County Process, the method by which authentic Tennessee whiskey is produced. 34 VIRGINIA ABC | ABC.VIRGINIA.GOVhttp://ABC.VIRGINIA.GOV
