was named for its creator Troy
Alexander, a pre-Prohibition era
New York bartender. With crème
de cacao, cream and a hefty dose of
nutmeg to garnish, you may want
to skip the pie and enjoy a Brandy
Alexander instead.

GIBSON
You may know the Martini, but
have you met its sibling, the
Gibson? The cocktail features
gin, a whisper of vermouth, and
a silverskin onion instead of an
olive. But its origins aren't as clear
as the gin used to make it; there
are as many theories as layers of
the Gibson's ubiquitous onion.
Some attribute the conception of
the Gibson to artist Charles Dana
Gibson, while others believe it
was a well-known onion farmer
who inspired the name. There's
an oft-told tale of a teetotaling

CACAO

▷ ¾ OZ. GRENADINE

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice.
Add liquid ingredients; shake.
Strain into a chilled martini
or cocktail glass. Garnish with
a pinch of nutmeg and/or
cinnamon.

▷ 1 OZ. LEMON JUICE
Combine ingredients with ice
in a cocktail shaker. Shake
well and strain into a cocktail
glass and serve. Garnish with a
cherry or lemon peel.
Vary by substituting calvados
for the applejack or by using
lime, instead of lemon, juice.
