Motorcyclists, says Trent Crowe, mayor of Wytheville,
look for low traffic, curves, pretty scenery and
increases and decreases in elevation. They’ll find all
of that on the Claw of the Dragon, 224 miles of road
in Wythe and Bland counties. “The really, really
curvy part’s only about 19 miles,” he says, north out
of Hungry Mother State Park. Motorcyclists from
Florida, Pennsylvania and Germany have traveled the
roads; there are plans to expand the trail, possibly
doubling it, in the next year.
