Scott Niswonger says it's the most egalitarian restaurant around. "You can be here at lunch with people that do all sorts of things-from making the
houses to the Light and Power guys to painting the
houses to guys that are trucking freight around the
country."
Donna Hartsell is proud of the cross-section of
humanity that slows down for a bowl of Beans All the
Way in this old grocery store building. "We get kids,
we get blue collar workers, white collar workers, senators, lawyers, doctors, factory workers, you name it,
we get it."
Dress makes no difference, says Janie Melton,
daughter of restaurant founders Romie and Zella
Mae Britt. "If you've been in the barn a-working, you
can come in there and eat, without changing clothes.
Everybody's the same in there."
"It's a lot of hard work, but we've met a lot
of great people over the years... We've seen
kids grow up in this place and then bring
their kids...We've shared family problems
and family rewards with other people, and
it's really been good that way."
Donna, Jerry, and their staff are in constant
motion, filling orders that stay lined up down the
counter from seven o'clock breakfast through the
ending of lunch at two o'clock, five days a week.
"It's a lot of hard work, but we've met a lot of great
people over the years, a lot of great customers,"
Donna reflects. "We've seen kids grow up in this
place and then bring their kids, and we've had a lot
of loyal customers. We've shared family problems and
family rewards with other people, and it's really been
good that way."
Adds Scott Niswonger: "It's just a very unique
place with a wonderful feel of Americana and smalltown living. I wouldn't trade it for anything."
