The Moon Pie General Store on Market Street offers nostalgic treats, toys, sodas and candy.

75-year-old sea turtles, and hyacinth
macaws, the world's largest parrots.
Two blocks from the aquarium,
you can climb aboard the highspeed catamaran River Gorge Explorer and take a two-hour naturalist-narrated trip down the Tennessee
River Gorge, the fourth largest river
canyon east of the Mississippi. This
trip is a good one for spying hawks,
herons, ospreys and even bald eagles
circling the peaks of Raccoon and
Signal mountains.
One of the best ways to get to
know Chattanooga is on the downtown waterfront, where you can
rent a bike and ride along the Tennessee Riverwalk, or you can take
advantage of Chattanooga's citywide bike share program (just like
Paris!), picking up a bike at one station and returning it to another.
The Chattanooga River Market
on Ross' Landing offers the opportunity to enjoy live music by local
and touring artists on stage every
Saturday through September while
you can also explore the handmade
crafts of regional artisans.
Another good place to check out

local arts and culture is the Bluff
View Arts District, a historic neighborhood situated on stone cliffs
high above the Tennessee River.
Wander the River Gallery with its
exhibits from nationally recognized
artists, or enjoy a class with regional
working artists on site. A short walk
away is the River Gallery Sculpture
Garden. And while you're here,
pick up a loaf or two of fresh baked
bread from the Bluff View Bakery,
the city's oldest artisan bakery.
As for me, I feel I've earned some
hot, fresh artisan rolls after paddling (standing up!) on the Tennessee River for three hours. My abdominal muscles may never be the
same. But at least I stayed upright.
I can't say the same for guide Mike
Baldwin. He takes an unintentional
dive off his board just as we're sliding into Audubon Island for a midriver hike. I smile a little to myself,
as the three of us trek through the
island forest behind our sodden
guide, the traffic of Veterans Bridge
zooming by overhead and the Bluff
View Arts District kissing the sky
above us. 
