The GOOD WALK The 78-foot-across arch (facing page) and Fat Man's Misery (left) are the two prominent features of walks in Natural Bridge Resort State Park. WHEN YOU GO The Walk: A moderate 1.2-mile roundtrip outing to the top of Kentucky's Natural Bridge, with the option to walk more of the park's 20 miles of trails. Getting There: Take Exit 33 (about 10 miles east of Stanton, Kentucky) off Bert T. Combs Mountain Parkway and follow KY 11 southward for 2 miles. Turn into the state park and follow signs to Hemlock Lodge. If not staying in the lodge, continue on KY 11 for about .5 mile and take a right to leave your car in the Hoe Down Island parking area. (Dances are held Saturday nights during the season.) A trail from there leads to the Original Trail and would add about .6 mile roundtrip to Natural Bridge. More Information: Short descriptions of the park's amenities and trails may be found on parks.ky.gov/ parks/resortparks/natural-bridge. If you are feeling lazy... ...you could ride the Sky Lift. Its ski lift-like chairs steeply ascend the mountain on moving cables, delivering you to within 600 feet of Natural Bridge. G R E AT M O U N TA I N READS THE FOLK SCHOOL CHANGES YOU.
