If you were to remove all the empty space between all the

Mount Le Conte, near Gatlinburg, TN, is the tallest

WEATHER APHORISMS
If hornets' nests are built up high, lots of snow
will leave the sky. If hornets' nests are built
down low, winter days will lack much snow.
If you don't like the weather...wait a minute.
If the robin sings in the bush,
Then the weather will be coarse.
If the robin sings in the barn,
Then the weather will be warm.

1 lb okra
2 large eggs
¼ c milk
2 c yellow cornmeal
1 TBS salt
1 tsp pepper
Oil for frying
Wash and dry okra and slice into circles about ½- ¾" thick. Mix together
dry ingredients in a shallow dish.
Mix wet ingredients in a bowl. Put
all okra in wet mixture, then dip out
into dry mixture to coat. Fry in single
layers 1-2 minutes until golden.
Remove and drain. Serve hot.

GARDENING HINTS

July is the time to sow cabbage,
cauliflower, kale, beets, carrots and
peas in your garden for a fall or winter
harvest.
There are many uses for Epsom Salt in
your garden.
Sprinkle it around the base of plants
to deter slugs and snails.
Mix 1 TBS per gallon of water and
feed your tomatoes and peppers.
Water your roses with it for better
blooms.

between young plants and weeds is
to pull up everything. If they come
up again, they're weeds.
