At Milepost 382 is one of the
signature stops along the parkway, the Folk Art Center, open
year-round. The center features
visitor information, plus the
home of the Southern Highland
Craft Guild. The center houses
three galleries, a library and the
Guild's oldest craft shop. Beginning in March each year, visitors
can see live demos. Downtown
Asheville, the parkway's other
twin-"big city," is a five-minute
drive from the Center. In addition to a bustling downtown full
of dining, shopping and other
attractions, Asheville is home
to the spectacular Biltmore
Estate, home of the nation's
largest private residence as well
as equally stunning grounds and
gardens, the Antler Hill Village
and Winery and much more.
