New State Park For North Carolina
Pisgah View State Park will become the state's 42nd state park.

N

orth Carolinians will have a new state park to enjoy
in the coming years. Gov. Roy Cooper has signed a
law creating Pisgah View State Park in Buncombe and Haywood counties, the 42nd state park. The state has contracted with the Cogburn family to buy the 1,600-acre tract for
$18.2 million as funds become available-an estimated five
to eight years. The land, which has a view of the iconic Mt.
Pisgah, has been in the family since 1790 and has been
open to the public as a vacation resort.
"We have so many different kinds of state parks in the
mountain region, but nothing like Pisgah View," says Katie
Hall, with the N.C. Division of Parks and Recreation. "It's
incredibly scenic. It's jam-packed with different habitats
because the elevation of the property goes from 2,600 feet
above sea level to 4,600 feet. It's a really special property."
The governor also signed bills establishing three new
trails in western North Carolina: North Peaks, Wilderness
Gateway and Overmountain Victory.
