INSTANT CHEMISTRY
CREATING A FAMILY
Courtney Rocovich and Shelby Bailey had
instant chemistry when they first met at a
family friend's house. They stayed up most
of the night talking; when Courtney went
to leave the next day, Shelby made sure to
get her number and they spent six hours
on the phone.
Courtney and Shelby went for a late night
walk on the beach in Playa del Carmen while
on vacation. Shelby nervously got down
on one knee, proclaiming he never wanted
to live one day of his life without her. Her
engagement ring, made of sequoia wood,
was symbolic of their first trip together to
the Sequoia National Forest.
Their favorite wedding day memory was
when Courtney, Shelby and their flower girl,
Shelby's daughter Harper, gathered during
the ceremony for their tree watering ritual,
watering a magnolia tree that would later be
planted in their yard. Harper was so excited,
she cried, because she was so happy for
their family, which was a special moment
for everyone.

OLD AND NEW
Their day was also a mesh of old and new,
combining a rustic vibe and travel theme with
more personal aspects, such as the female officiant presiding over a nondenominational
ceremony. The couple shared personalized
vows, and the components embodied their
traditional values but also the individual
characteristics that make them such a unique
couple.
The bride and best man wrote a surprise
song for the groom, which the best man sang
during the reception after his toast.
GIVING BACK
Courtney and Shelby felt they had everything
they needed, so rather than receive gifts, they
took stuffed animal donations. Courtney, an
emergency medicine physician for Carilion
Clinic, took them all to work to give to sick
pediatric patients.
