still is even amused by my odd sense of humor." Yes, he talks like that.
He dotes on his kids, runs, bikes, hikes and serves his community. His
brother owns a brewery and his dad, at 92, still volunteers.
Manifestation of dudeness? "I certainly spend a lot of my limited focus
on appearance and being fashionable and stylish. Not just for myself,
but in coaching others what is the appropriate message with their own
appearance."
Davidson's "constantly trying to pay attention to detail and the messages implied by subtle gestures whether in appearance, words or actions.
One can pay attention to their appearance while they are engaged in all
kinds of important matters. In the military, Indian war paint, musical
performers. Many of the individuals who have had great influence on
changing our culture have had their own unique method of expressing
themselves through their appearance. Einstein's big hair, Willie Nelson's
ponytail, Zuckerman's hoodie."
"He's the best man I've ever met," says Janice. That qualifies four-square
as a dude.

Larry Davidson once fired his wife, Janice Dinkins. What more does a
dude need to qualify? Not much. OK, so he's a self-proclaimed "weather
weenie," eschewing runs in the snow, but, hey, dudes ain't perfect or they
wouldn't be dudes.
Some will say Davidson's perfect, though, just by looking at him. Everything's in place: hair, shined shoes, pocket hanky, sometimes even a
boutonnière, always the just-so trouser crease. His suits fit. He's trim and
athletic, his body lying about his age, 65.
He makes pies, plays bridge and pool, dresses up at Halloween (tux
and Chuck Taylors), gets miffed when he sees trash on the ground, wears
interesting socks, talks intelligent politics (if that's not an oxymoron),
and works around the house "without prompting," according to his wife.
He runs his family's company, Davidson's (founded in 1910), and he
runs it with a dude's flair. He adores Janice - as a real dude would - and
says of her, "[She] has demonstrated great administrative skill combined
with the intuitive and empathic sense of how people really feel. Those
traits and her artistic abilities have created the perfect balance for me. She
