What is advance care planning, and
what resources are available to
begin advance care planning?
A medical power of attorney, or living will,
informs your health care providers of your
wishes, but it is not automatically translated
into your medical chart as a physician's
order for care. Advance care planning is for
advanced-stage or advanced medical conditions such as cancer or kidney disease, and
is facing difficult decisions about how they

When is the right time for hospice
care to begin?
The right time to begin hospice care is a
very personal choice. The decision to involve
hospice care marks the transition from a
patient pursuing curative measures and focusing instead on the goal of easing suffering
and improving the quality of life in their last
6 months. The hospice team, made up of
certified physicians and nurse practitioners,
registered nurses, certified nursing assistants,
chaplains, medical social workers, volunteers,
licensed professional counselors and bereavement professionals help with a customized
team approach unique to each patient's changing physical, emotional and spiritual needs.

How do I select the right computer
for my needs?
You have two choices: desktop or laptop.
The desktop is less expensive, more reliable
and faster. They are also easier to upgrade,
though they are not portable. If you're
always checking email at your desk, this
would be the better selection. A laptop
is more expensive and upgrades can be
difficult. They are less durable, but highly
portable. If you are constantly mobile, a
laptop is the choice for you.
