Q: Tell us about your business.
A: Brogan Insurance is a second-generation family business that
has served the Roanoke Valley for 35 years. We sell auto, home, life,
general liability, workers comp...all types of policies, but we believe
knowledge is the best policy. We strive to educate our clients,
analyze their risks and give them options. We're an independent
agency, representing multiple carriers with the highest standards
of integrity and service, which allows us to offer a wide variety of
coverage and pricing options. I am blessed with a wonderful staff,
each with at least 15 years insurance experience, who are committed
to delivering friendly and professional service.
Q: How did your career path lead you to your current position?
A: My father, Dan Brogan, started the business in 1983 out of our
home. It was one of the first agencies in Roanoke to represent Erie
Insurance. By the time I graduated from high school in 1985, he had
an office on Peters Creek Road and wanted me to join him. While
my friends were doing beach week, I stayed home studying for my
licensing exam. I thought I'd be in the agency for a year or two, but
Dad and I worked together for 18 years until his retirement in 2003.
I love what I do and am thankful to continue our family tradition of
serving others.

Q: What's your favorite part of your job?
A: Helping others with their insurance. We work with individuals and
businesses to help them find the right coverage for their needs. Many
of our clients are like family, and we've worked with generations of
them. Today you can get a policy with a few clicks on your phone,
but is it adequate? Do you know what you have? Or should have?
Although technology has made buying a policy really simple,
insurance is quite complex. A policy is a contract with conditions and
exclusions that most people don't understand. We ask questions
to find and fix the gaps. Like fitting pieces of a puzzle together, we
apply the endorsements or proper values to prevent gaps.
We're a fully automated agency but have old-fashioned values. We
are local. Folks can call or drop by to ask questions, discuss a new
venture, make a payment, service their policy, discuss a claim or just
stop by for a bag of popcorn. Our service doesn't end with the sale.
We work to maintain our clients' plans in the years that follow.
We help others in our community, too. We support a variety of
programs and organizations including Project WARM (Wood
Association of Roanoke Metro), Street Survival, Sounds of the
Mountains Storytelling Festival, the Jefferson Center and Camp
Bethel. Whether delivering firewood to families in need, helping
teenagers become better drivers, promoting the arts or the outdoors,
we strive to serve our community and make the Roanoke Valley a
better place.
Q: What does it mean to be recognized as a "Best of 2018" award winner?
A: It is both an honor and a humbling experience. Receiving this
award affirms our clients think as much of us as we do of them. We
are very grateful and thank everyone who helped us earn a spot in
