Q: Tell us about Twin Creeks Brewing Company.
A: We began as a dream of three homebrewers to open a small
craft brewery somewhere in the Roanoke Valley. In 2016, we
became the first craft brewery in Roanoke County, and opened
our doors in downtown Vinton. The first year was a real learning
curve. We had been brewing for a long time and believe it or not
scaling up our operation was easier than we had anticipated. We
had never actually run a small business and we quickly learned we
had to put everything in place to run it smoothly and that meant
everything from policies and procedures all the way down to who
would sweep the floor at night! While it was a lot of hard work, our
first year was great and we look forward to many more as we grow
our company.
Q: How did your career path lead you to your current position?
A: Of the owners, two have engineering degrees and many years of
experience in sales and manufacturing. The other was a business
major who has worked for a local bank for the last 15 years. A love of
craft brewing brought us together with the desire to not only create
great craft beer but to also build a small business from the ground
up. We quickly found that having two engineers and someone from
the business side was a huge asset.
Q: What is unique about your Brewery that sets you apart?
A: Whenever we traveled on a short trip, vacation, or whatever
reason, we would always find a local craft brewery and make it
our mission to speak with the owner, brewer, or anyone else who
would be willing to answer our questions. We all have done a lot of
self-study, but the knowledge we received from these visits has been
invaluable. Having visited breweries all over the country, we have
seen what works, what doesn't work, and most importantly, what
could be. This is what we wanted to bring to our brewery and the
Roanoke area and we become the social hub for Vinton and nearby
surrounding areas.
Q: What does the future hold for TCBC?
A: Our five year plan was to finish filling our building with as much
equipment as it could hold. During our first year of business we
expanded our equipment to double our finished beer storage and
fermentation capacity. In January we began distribution of our
product to local and regional restaurants and tap rooms. We began
a barrel aging program and would like to expand that further. We
are in the process of planning this expansion in hopes that we can
stay in our current location in downtown Vinton. If everything goes
as planned, you will see a lot of changes at the brewery!

Q: Best part of your job?
A: Other than making beer, it is without a doubt, our customers! We learned
quickly that while you have to have great beer, you also have to have a
great environment where people want to hang out, relax, and listen to live
music. Our goal at TCBC is to be responsible business owners and give back
whenever possible. We participate in a variety of charities and the best reward
has been becoming a part of the community.
Q: What does it mean to be recognized as a Best of 2018 winner?
A: Without a doubt it is validation that we are doing something right! When
creating a new recipe or planning an expansion, you never know if it's going
to work. Being recognized means that we are on people's radar! We want to
be your choice, for great beer and a place where you feel at home. We say
"Good ingredients, good equipment, and good process makes Great Craft
