Science tells us that the majority of brain development
happens by age three. We know that the interactions and
relationships a child experiences with their caregivers
form the foundation of their learning and development
when it comes to their thinking, social skills and emotional
development. Excellent instruction builds on what children
already know, and can do, and provides knowledge, skills,
and dispositions for lifelong learning. Children that receive
education in early childhood have benefits that last a
lifetime. Early childhood education is imperative to setting
the foundation for your child's academic future.

Roanoke Valley Christian Schools

NEW upgrades for the 2018-2019 school year include new
playground equipment and security fencing, expanded class
availability, and a Student Leadership Institute. Roanoke
Valley Christian Schools (RVCS), is a dually accredited, private,
co-educational, Christian school for Preschool (age 2) - Grade
12. The curriculum is college preparatory and a Supplemental
Learning Program is available for students with special needs.

ABCs of ABA

Our mission is to provide evidence-based behavior services
to learners with autism spectrum and related disorders. We
recognize the capability and uniqueness within every child
and want to help maximize their potential.
We use ABA principles and procedures to provide
comprehensive services to children and their families.
Research ABA therapy is the most effective evidence-based
treatment for children with autism.
We specialize in early intervention, and work with children
ages 2 to 21. ABC'S of ABA is natural environment based,
using each child's individual strengths and motivations to
foster their potential programs are developed specific to
each child's needs, and we provide the necessary training
and supervision to help replicate and generalize these

interventions throughout different environments, including
home, school and the clinic.

Mill Mountain Zoo

As an educational institution, Mill Mountain Zoo serves 26
school districts throughout the Valley and in Southwest
Virginia. It is noteworthy that field trips and outreach offered
by the Zoo are keyed to the Virginia Standards of Learning,
SOLs. This affords a unique context for experiential learning,
aligned with the Commonwealth's standards. The Zoo also
offers a variety of camps and classes, as well as two unique
series called Breakfast with the Animals and Night Howls that
are suitable for all ages and give people an opportunity to
learn and explore the zoo before and after its regular hours
of operation.
Approximately 45,000 patrons visited the zoo in 2017, up
around 5,000 from the previous year, with many of these
engaging in our educational programs or events. We reach
an additional 15,000 individuals a year through formal on
and off-site education programming. About 33% of those
15,000 individuals reached through targeted programming
each year include Roanoke City residents from 75 different
public and private schools, libraries, nursing homes, and other
organizations. For example, Mill Mountain Zoo hosts close to
150 field trips per year, with field trip programs and guided
tours targeted at pre-k through senior citizens.
Annually, we provide special hands-on learning
opportunities and internships for approximately 50 college
students a year (Hollins University, Roanoke College and
Virginia Tech) who are pursuing careers in conservation,
veterinary science, animal science, and education.
