The popular seafood spot gets a Salem revamp.

wful Arthur's Seafood Company keeps
changing with the ever-evolving industry.
In 2017, the Salem location moved
downtown, which has been a great change for the
restaurant. Not only has the community loved it, but
Awful Arthur's has become a bigger part of the town.
"Salem is an awesome community within itself!
Truly a place where everybody knows your name," says
manager Jeff Tate. "We have really enjoyed putting
money back into the community. We have supported
Salem High School by supporting the yearbook, football
and cheerleading teams. We also support Roanoke
College sports, such as the rugby team."
The new model for the Salem restaurant includes
"two distinct areas - one side of the restaurant caters
towards the authentic Seafood Company feel, with
rich wood and brick, perfect for families and date
nights," says Tate. "The other side emphasizes a

natural light, open air, energetic social atmosphere
with pool tables and dart boards."
The new layout and atmosphere's popularity has
inspired a change for the Roanoke location. "In 2019,
we plan on remodeling our downtown Roanoke
store. We have been at 108 Campbell for over 25
years and we are eagerly looking forward to bringing
the same update that we did in Salem to Roanoke."
Awful Arthur's offers the only raw bar in the
Valley. Specials like Tuesday Crab Legs, Wednesdays
Bayside Oysters and Thursdays Peel and Eat Shrimp
make it a go-to for seafood lovers.
The menu has something for everyone. "One
of the best things we have on the menu that most
people do not know about is our slow-roasted pulled
pork. The pork is definitely something that only our
Awfully good customers know about," says Tate.
"Once you've had it, you'll be hooked."

he Great 611 Steak Company takes you
back to a time when dining on a rail car was
part of the journey. Train-themed decor
that includes railroad memorabilia, artifacts and
prints of local points of interest are reminiscent
of the steam era. Named for the Great 611, one
of the original Norfolk & Western Class J steam
locomotives built in Roanoke, this restaurant lives
up to its name.
Founded in 2006 from what was once a Western
Sizzlin, Great 611 has taken awards for Best Steak
from The Roanoker magazine four years in a row.
