Ted Polfelt, the executive chef of a company that manages four properties
(Frankie Rowland's Steakhouse, Corned Beef and Company, 419 West and the
Farmhouse Restaurant), is also a full-time instructor at the Al Pollard Culinary
School at Virginia Western Community College. With multiple certifications,
he has served as President and Vice President of the Southwest VA Chapter of
the American Culinary Federation, was named 2016 ACF Southeast Region
Chef of the Year and even participated in tryouts for the United States team
Culinary Olympics. Well-respected in the food and beverage industry, his work
not only improves tourism in the region, but his encouragement of young
culinary professionals creates the next generation of talented Roanoke-area
chefs. "We are creating food that people will put into their bodies," Polfelt says.
"It is an intimate experience that will either enrich someone or harm them. It
is important that we take that responsibility seriously."

Originally from Chicago, Quincy Randolph is now a chef at RND Coffee, with
a culinary arts degree. As half of the "Coffee Brothers" (his brother and RND
founder, Steffon, is the other half), Randolph's unique menu creations include
items such as a Black Garlic and Maple Latte, Dijon-Horseradish and Truffle
Bagels and Nori Seaweed brownies. His nitro beer can be found in various
restaurants and stores in town. He has participated in various culinary popups in the community, and actively participates in setting up events such as
the Wasena 100th Year Neighborhood Celebration. He is also involved with
local artists to help design items like t-shirts and store décor. For Randolph, it's
all about bringing the community together to do good things. "I think having
people from the millennial generation, like myself and my brother, helps inspire
others, and specifically the generation below us," Randolph says. "Our story thus
far shows that if you're a genuine person who is focused, but also cares about
people, others will support you and want to work with you."

" I ' M M O S T P A S S I O N AT E A B O U T C H A L L E N G I N G
MYSELF AND MY BUSINESS TO DO BETTER."

A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Aaron Ray-Dykstra founded the Making
Foundation in 2016, a nonprofit that is home to the Maker Mart, a school for
kids from all walks of life to learn about creating and building. Today, the Maker
Mart is rich with students, after-school programs, adult classes and summer
camps; over 400 students come from underserved communities and have
learned to work with their hands and broaden their horizons for success. RayDykstra is a trained blacksmith and certified bench jeweler and has presented
on education panels across the state (including VDOE, 21st Century and Virginia
School Board Association). "Being able to work with young folks that may have
had a tough go of it, and show them what they are capable of and the impact
they can make in this community is endlessly rewarding and contagious," he
says. "...Showing a person that they are capable of something that they didn't
ever realize has an incredible lasting impact and I feel lucky I get to share that."

As an entertainment promoter, a Nashville recording artist and leader of his
band, Low Low Chariot, JD Sutphin is no stranger to the spotlight. For him,
however, it's all about using his position to build awareness for great causes.
Big Lick Entertainment puts on many events throughout the year, with about
90% of them benefiting local charities, such as Council of Community Services,
Presbyterian Community Center, NAMI of Roanoke Valley and more. Whether
running established events like Big Lick Burger Fest or more recent additions
such as Big Lick Train Tug or Virginia Steak Fest, his organization raises
thousands of dollars to help nonprofits make a difference in their reach and
impact. "People in my own town inspire me!" Sutphin says. "I think a vast
majority of people in our community are some of the most electric and caring
people you could ever meet. People really do go out of their way to be creative
but also support one another. It's amazing."
