whenever he can sneak
away from the offi ce, Rob
Choi regularly makes the
nearly two-hour trek east
down I-64 from Richmond to Virginia
Beach to fi sh the waters around the
Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel. This
23-mile-long engineering marvel may
be just a convenient way to get from
one shore to the other for most folks,
but anglers like Rob appreciate the
fact that the Bay Bridge-Tunnel forms
one of the world's largest artifi cial
reefs, prov iding ideal habitat for
numerous
species such
as monster
striped
bass. With
a structure
this big
traversing
the largest
estuary in
the United
States, there's plenty of room for you
to catch a piece of the action. And
there's no more exciting way to do
it than from a sea kayak.
Hooking an athletic striper while
bobbing mere inches above the
water is the sort of heart-pounding
adventure that creates a memory for
providing ideal habitat
for numerous species
such as monster
striped bass.
boundary for many
northern species and the

many southern species,
its unique habitat creates
a lifetime. Once you set your hook
on one of these big lunkers, you're
off to the races as the lightweight
watercraft is suddenly powered by
the muscular gamefi sh on the other
end of the line. It's an exhilarating
contest of brains and brawn that will
test everything you thought you ever
learned about fi sh-and then some.
The picturesque waters around
Virginia Beach offer the perfect
setting for the most thrilling fi shing
encounter you've experienced since
you first wet a line and became
hooked for life. Better yet, while
the Chesapeake marks the southern
the environment for the world's best
striped bass fi shing. Blessed with a
mild climate and temperate waters,
Virginia Beach provides year-round
fi shing-a saltwater angler's paradise.
Experienced fi shermen like Rob know
to look for calm waters on the lee side
of one of the man-made islands that
support the bridge's massive pilings.
"Once I've found that and the tide
is just right," Rob says, "there's the
potential for so much magic."
An abundance of local guides and
outfi tters are ready to put you in the
perfect position for your own close
encounter with a monster striper. All
you need to bring is your passion for
fishing. Prepare to get hooked all
over again.
