IMPORTANCE OF REPLACING The expansion device meters refrigerant flow to the evaporator. Following a compressor failure: Accumulators and filter driers trap moisture and particulates. If it is not replaced after a compressor failure: * Orifice Tube MUST be replaced * Expansion valve should be carefully inspected and/or replaced Expansion Device * Moisture will cause corrosion in the compressor Some hose assemblies contain mufflers and/ or filters that may be clogged with debris from the failed compressor. * Filtration is minimized or ceases altogether These types of hoses cannot be flushed and MUST be replaced to avoid repeat compressor failure. Accumulator / Filter Drier Hose Assembly with in-line filter or muffler Modern condensers have compact tubes with tiny passages, and are nearly impossible to flush: If the vehicle is 2002 or later, it is strongly recommended that the condenser be replaced to avoid a repeat failure.
