MACS Service Reports - 2015 - DEC4
with DTC C0561. When the lean condition was
corrected, that pending DTC was cleared along
with the stability control DTC and the entire vehicle
was repaired. The lean condition was actually false
air from both hose clamps being loose on the plastic
intake duct / hose between the throttle body and
the MAF sensor. Yes, a screwdriver applied to some
air duct work under the hood to the throttle body
along with a scan tool working together with a fair
amount of knowledge of cross systems integration
fixed a very high tech sounding problem!
DTCs are sometimes interrelated!

SBD Step 4: Check for Bulletins
This one is crucial and most technicians do put it
early into their diagnostic process. But also remember to put it after a diagnostic systems test so you
can narrow down the field of TSBs that can sometimes be daunting in volume. Don't forget to check
for recalls, special service policies, service tech tips
and preliminary info (PI) as well. Not every one of
the special service policies, service tech tips and
preliminary info documents are publically listed in
the various aftermarket sources, so it's important
to also use OEM information when necessary. See
Figure 5.

IF THE AMBIENT TEMP SENSOR IS DISCONNECTED
OR REPLACED, IT MUST BE RESET BEFORE
CHECKING THE FUNCTION OF THE SENSOR OR
THE AIR CONDITIONING. THIS CAN BE PERFORMED
BY EITHER ROAD TESTING THE VEHICLE OVER 25
MPH, OR WITH THE VEHICLE IDLING FOR OVER 30
MINUTES.
Figure 5: Even though these VWs use a typical NTC thermistor, there
could be a problem with your diagnostics unless you perform a reset
after the sensor has been disconnected, either as part of a service procedure or as part of your diagnostics testing. Get the VSS up to 25 MPH
unless you want to simply idle the engine for 30 plus minutes for a
passive sensor reset.
Figure 4: Always check each module for DTCs. You never know what might
be interconnected! Whenever you get a P-Code, expect a C-Code on many
late model vehicles. A GM PI (Preliminary Information) Bulletin advises
you to repair any other DTC related issues before working on the C0561 code
that has set in more than one module on this 2007 Chevy truck.
