shows, each motor contains an LCU (Local Control Unit). The amplifier receives its orders from
the body and powertrain computers, and decides
how much each flap door should move. It transmits
those door movement signals to the LCUs, which
operates the motors. It's obvious that the three motors share hard wired power and ground, and the
single data bus wires send information and orders
to the amplifier and all of the motors' LCUs. So if
there's a failure on a 2013 or earlier Rogue, you
might look at the common wiring splices and the
data bus connection.
For 2014 however, there are data transmission
lines that enable communication between the amplifier (or Front Air Control on the manual A/C), the
body and powertrain computers. But the three motors are totally different. As the diagram (Figure 8)
shows, they each have five terminals, one of which
provides a motor ground, and all the terminals are
hard wired directly to the amplifier (or Front Air
Control). So it's obvious the motors are different,
and in fact they're stepper motors. They each contain four coils, which can be energized in series by
the amplifier/FAC to turn the motor in discrete
steps. By changing the direction of the sequence to
energize the coils, the motor will be turned in the
reverse direction. See Figure 9.
Individual hard wiring of the three stepper motors for the 2014 model is a much more robust system than the previous system using the single data
line to simultaneously control the three motors.
