Figure 11: It's always helpful to print out a copy of the A/C system wiring diagram and take it out to the shop with you when trying to tackle a complicated
problem. This drawing shows the correct pin outs, connector numbers and wire colors for this system, making it easier to perform tests on the vehicle.

with good continuity. The two remaining wires had no
connection (Figures 14, 15), although one of them would
intermittently make contact during a wiggle test. Lucky
for us we found the damaged area to be near the sensor
connector; this made for a relatively easy repair. If the
problem had been found somewhere along the length
of the wiring harness or at the PCM connector, it would
have made the repair more complicated and difficult to
perform. In this case, we were able to purchase a replacement connector, cut off the old one, and splice in the new
leads. It didn't take long after that to reconnect the sensor, start the engine, and finally hear that sweet sound...
Click!
Going back to the scan tool once more verifies the repair. The screen now shows 1.39 volts from the transducer, equal to 116 PSI. With the A/C system now running,
the tool displays A/C REQUEST = YES and A/C RELAY
= ON. See Figure 16.

Figure 12: Wiring diagrams enabled us to resolve the function of each pin
at the high side pressure sensor connector. Knowing what they do, would
you jumper any of these wires together? Of course not! You'd likely get
fault codes for signal too high or signal too low, or worse yet short power to
ground, possibly damaging the PCM!
