The
service issue
arises with the 20202021
CT4 and CT5
models because of
a problem with the
HVAC temperature
control actuators -
there are two (left and
right side) on the split
system. One or the
other (or both) doesn't
go through the programmed
full travel
in cool/cold weather.
And although the computer
logs a trouble
code for the offending
actuator (B2805 or
B2806 as noted earlier),
there's no software
fix. It still has to
be replaced. Actuators
are
lower-cost
parts

time is so totally suspect, that you have to make the
customer understand that any estimate is just that,
an estimate.
But many aftermarket specialists in cooling systems
and HVAC don't even make the investment in
an aftermarket electronic information system, " getting
by " with just an aftermarket printed service
manual. The manual may cover the service procedures
but at best it 's often barely just a tipoff to a
job that involves a lot more work for one of those
" near twins " . Or maybe it 's not even that good, because
printing deadlines for manuals force the use
of even less reliable pre-final manufacturing assembly
sequences.

a moderate-cost job,
but not always. Have
the customer braced
or seated for this one.
The left side CT4 temperature actuator replacement
is factory flat-rated at 1.3 hours, and is likely to
take somewhat longer, maybe over two hours. However,
the right-side temperature actuator looks like
a real dog job. Its flat rate time is 9.0 hours. AND
calls for a helper when you get to the part of the job
where the instrument panel tie bar has to come out
(and later when it has to be installed). The actuator
itself is just over $31, but the total labor is obviously
going to top $1,000 in areas where shop time for one
man is $100 per hour. That 's a big ticket to change
out an HVAC actuator so telling the customer the
part costs $31 is obviously not going to be adequate
information for a customer asking for an estimate.
The CT5 times are much lower, 0.6 hour for the left
side, 1.3 hours for the right side. v
