Arizona’s tribal trading posts, cultural centers and museums feature more than just American Indian art. These venues are woven into the fabric of the lives and histories of Arizona’s native communities. Although each is unique, they all provide a market for American Indian artists, as well as a center for commerce and cultural conservatorship. Trading posts provide a trip back through time. Visitors can witness transactions being handled as they were in the early days of Arizona history: an elderly Navajo woman cashes a check by endorsing the back with an inked thumbprint, or tribal members

enjoy a cool drink as they chat about community news. Although Arizona’s trading posts are found mainly in the northern portion of the state, many tribal cultural centers and museums in other regions of Arizona also offer authentic native arts and crafts for sale. Here’s a guide to just a few of the outstanding places to find genuine American Indian handcrafted arts and crafts throughout Arizona’s tribal communities.
