Chapter 14. Online Transactions Online Learner's Permit Exam Requirements Effective July 12, new features will be added to the online Class D and M learner's permit exam for compliance and safety purposes. To take a learner's permit exam at home, the applicant must have access to a computer with a web camera and only specific browsers can be used. The exam CANNOT be taken on a smartphone or a tablet. The applicant's photo will be taken randomly during the exam for audit and compliance purposes. The applicant must be the only person seen in the photos. There are strict penalties for cheating on online exams: a hearing, a 60-day permit revocation, a $100 reinstatement fee, and all future exams must be done at a Service Center. Applicant are required to acknowledge the rules and penalties and to provide consent for the system to take and capture their photograph. If they don't have a web camera or do not consent, the exam will NOT begin. All tests must be taken within 60 days. New Instruction Letter A new instruction letter will be printed during the ATLAS transaction explaining the new requirements. RMV Service centers can also print the instructions in English and in the 15 core languages for applicants. When the customer accesses the myRMV account, their permit instructions will display in the language that they selected within ATLAS during the permit transaction. 07/23
