Chapter 3. Auto Home Plates Slide-On Campers are Not Eligible for Camper Plates A slide-on camper, also referred to as a pick-up camper or a truck camper, is neither a trailer nor a motor vehicle, and therefore is never issued a plate. The truck that carries the slide-on camper must be registered, but is not entitled to camper (AHN) plates. If the camper obscures the visibility of the truck's rear plate, the customer is required to temporarily move the plate from the rear of the truck to the rear of the camper. What is a " Slide-on Camper " ? A slide-on camper, sometimes called a truck camper or pickup camper, is loaded onto, or fixed to, the chassis of a pick-up truck. It is able to be removed from its transporting truck with relative ease by using camper jacks. It is not designed to be towed. Many of these campers have kitchen and bathroom facilities. Below is an example of a " Slide-on Camper " . 11/09
