Chapter 5. Passport Card Passport Card The Department of State has been issuing the U.S. Passport Card to United States citizens in the spring of 2008. The Passport Card was created as a less expensive alternative to a regular passport. The Passport Card can be used for land and sea travel to enter or re-enter the Untied States from Mexico, Canada, the Caribbean, and Bermuda. The Passport Card will not be accepted for air travel. The U.S. Passport Card is an acceptable form of identification and may be used to prove either date of birth or signature when applying for a Massachusetts License or ID card.
