Chapter 8. Passenger Special Plates Issued by Branch: Veteran Passenger Plate continued: To prove eligibility for Veteran's Plates and the Veteran's Indicator on a license, they must prove that he/she received an " Honorable " discharge from military service. The customer must also have served the required number of days of military service to qualify as a veteran: * 180 days of regular active duty service (enlisted or drafted service) and a last discharge or release under honorable conditions (does not include training) * 90 days of active duty service (Reservists or National Guard), one day of which is during " wartime " and a last discharge or release under honorable conditions (does not include training) Required Documentation Any of the following documents can be accepted as proof of honorable discharge. Note: In order to be acceptable, the information on all forms presented must be typed (never handwritten). DD-214 Form - Must indicate " Honorable " in the Character of Service box or Character of Separation box. These boxes will not always be located in the same place on the form. Only the long form (full page) DD-214 is acceptable; the short form (half page) cannot be accepted. A Member 4 copy of the DD-214 will always include a Character of Service box. Members 1, 2 and 3 copies of the DD-214 may (but not always) include a Character of Service box. Any of these documents is acceptable as long as " Honorable " is indicated in the Character of Service or Character of Separation box. In either the Character of Service box or the Character of Separation box, " Under Honorable Conditions " may be indicated and this is also acceptable. 8/13
