Learn about the ABILIFY MYCITE® System - 4

Digital Medicine: Real-world clinical experience
Adopting and integrating the ABILIFY MYCITE®
into clinical psychiatry
How does the ABILIFY MYCITE System work in everyday clinical practice? What effect does
it have on the patient-provider relationship? Are there unanticipated challenges that need
to be examined and addressed? Feedback from the first clinicians to prescribe the system
for their patients in real-world settings is extremely helpful in answering these questions.
A psychiatrist's perspective
As the first clinician to deploy the system in my practice, I am uniquely positioned to provide
an anecdotal " field report. "
Finding the right patient
Before prescribing, I take into consideration each patient's diagnosis (eg, major depressive
disorder, bipolar I disorder, or schizophrenia), their specific challenges and barriers to success,
and their technological fluency for understanding the different components of the system. My
evaluation also includes an assessment of the patient's ability to set appropriate goals. I am able
to set the way I receive notifications. The associated app enables my patients and me to share
information between appointments and to have productive discussions.
We are all part of the same team
Together, we can review their medication-ingestion data and discuss their daily activity
and rest. In effect, I am on the same team as my patient and their caregivers; I view the
Dashboard like a " scoreboard. "
My patients understand that I don't recommend the system because they miss doses;
I recommend it to help them be engaged with their care. For my patients on the digital medicine
system, the conversation has changed from the patient overgeneralizing or focusing on the days
before their appointment to our looking at the dashboard together for a more complete picture.
" Now, I see myself, the patient, and their
family and friends all as part of the same team. "

Understanding the possibilities is essential
My approach to treating patients is to push the limits of care to provide the best quality
of care for every individual. It takes a customized clinical approach to address each patient's
unique needs. I integrated a digital medicine system into my practice because the data
it captures between visits can help make me more aware of changes in my patients' daily
medication taking, activity, mood, and rest.
Please read IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION on pages 5-6.
NMS is a potentially fatal symptom complex reported in association with administration of antipsychotic
drugs, including ABILIFY MYCITE. Clinical signs of NMS are hyperpyrexia, muscle rigidity, altered mental
status, and evidence of autonomic instability. Additional signs may include elevated creatine phosphokinase,
myoglobinuria (rhabdomyolysis), and acute renal failure. Manage NMS with immediate discontinuation of
ABILIFY MYCITE, intensive symptomatic treatment, and monitoring.
There is a natural fear of the unknown among physicians as well as patients. As an early adopter
of the system, I have shared my experience with and gathered information from other clinicians.
My discussions with other physicians usually revolve around identifying appropriate patients,
having clear expectations, and ensuring that each patient has set achievable goals.
Although most ingestions will be detected within 30 minutes, it may take up to two hours to
detect the ingestion of ABILIFY MYCITE®
(aripiprazole tablets with sensor); in some cases, tablet
ingestion may not be detected. If this occurs, patients should be told not to repeat the dose.
