DOS AND DON'TS:

Swimming

As the weather gets warmer, many people turn to
swimming to beat the heat. Here are some tips for how to
stay safe in the water:
Do ease into a routine if you're new to lap swimming.
During your first week, swim for 30 seconds and rest for 30
seconds, for a total of 10 sets. Start with two or three days a
week and build up from there.
Don't leave a young child unattended or only with another
child in water. Teach children to ask an adult's permission
to go in a pool or body of water.
Do take breaks from swimming every hour. Give kids a
bathroom break, reapply sunscreen and drink plenty of
fluids even if you're not thirsty.
Don't ignore lane etiquette. If you're sharing space with
other swimmers, practice "circle swimming," going up on
one side of the lane and returning on the other.

What Is a

Brain Aneurysm?
A brain aneurysm is a weak area in a blood vessel that typically enlarges
like a balloon. Brain aneurysms don't always present symptoms, and
they vary in size, shape and location. Between 0.5 and 3 percent of
people with brain aneurysms might experience internal bleeding,
which doctors can determine through a series of tests. If the
weakened blood vessel bursts, serious brain damage-and
even death-can occur.

ARE YOU AT RISK?
Smoking, high blood pressure, family history and
traumatic brain injuries all contribute to the risk of
aneurysms. Learn more about them, including symptoms and treatment options, by visiting the Brain
Aneurysm Foundation at bafound.org.
