ANSWER: It depends. Screenings can help
doctors find cancer before symptoms appear,
but regular screenings of certain cancers
usually aren't recommended until after age 45.
Your doctor might recommend screening for
breast, colon and rectal, cervical, endometrial,
lung or prostate cancer.

THE BASICS

Seasonal Depression
Depression that strikes in the late fall or early winter
and eases in the spring and summer could be a sign of
seasonal affective disorder, or SAD. This type of depression shows up more frequently in people who live far
from the equator, like in the U.S., where there is less
direct sun exposure year-round.
People with SAD may experience symptoms such as:

DFeelings of hopelessness
D Having consistently low energy
D Difficulty concentrating
DSleeping too much
DOvereating and gaining weight
DSocial withdrawal
Medication, vitamin D, psychotherapy and light
therapy might help alleviate symptoms of seasonal
affective disorder.

MORE THAN THE WINTER
Cold, bleary days can make a lot of people
feel sad and tired in the winter, but SAD
is more than that-it's a form of clinical
depression. Visit apa.org and search for

about when those feelings are a sign of
a bigger mental health issue.
