Salina Regional Health Center implemented a new model for care of
patients with severe and life-threatening illnesses and injuries in July by
adding a new critical care physician who takes a lead role in managing
patients in the Intensive Care Unit.
Justin Hanke, M.D., received his internal medicine and critical care training at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine. A native
of Haysville, Kansas, near Wichita, Hanke focuses solely on treating patients
in the ICU. His training and experience allow him to manage and perform a
wide range of treatments for complex postsurgical and medical patients.
Previously, Salina specialists like cardiothoracic surgeons, neurosurgeons and cardiologists admitted patients to the ICU with the help of
hospitalists, and in consultation with doctors from other varying specialties.
Now, in most instances, patients are admitted to the ICU under the care of
Hanke, who coordinates all of the services needed, including follow-up
visits with specialists.
