The Promise of Dreams

 M

ost of us have woken up from a vivid dream with an
original idea, only to have it evaporate into a wisp of
memory as the day goes on. As the saying goes, you
have to ink it when you think it or poof - it's gone.
Some people dream big. They pursue their dreams with
relentless passion and drive. That sets inventors and
entrepreneurs in a select class. They take a distinctive
idea, develop it to fruition and bring it to market.
At CTA's Innovate! and Celebrate conference on
September 20-22 in San Jose, we will announce
CTA's Innovation Entrepreneur Award winners who
follow their dreams: one extraordinary small business executive, one exceptional small business and
one unique startup. These honorees show how vision,
resolve and hard work bring success.
We also look at innovation in motion as Local
Motors,
a
dynamic
young company, is bringing together
Congressman
Fred Upton with designers and engineers to develop the world's first highwayCTA's Tiffany
ready 3D-printed car. The company's CEO and Co-founder, Jay
Moore, Cindy
Rogers and his team are developing completely new vehicles.
Stevens and
Gary Shapiro.
He shares his unique perspective with i3.
And you would have to live under a rock to have not heard
about Pokémon GO, made possible by augmented reality (AR). We dig a little
deeper into the phenomenon and how AR will impact us going forward. We
also cover the latest sensors driving the Internet of Things, how technology
is transforming education and look at how the sharing economy is creating a
new car sharing service model that will alter transportation, and how we view
our cars in the years to come.
We have all heard about the prominent cyber invasions into Target, Home
Depot, eBay and other merchants' customer credit information. Retailers
are on the front lines in the cybersecurity wars and are aggressively fighting
cybercrime. Market Beat also features new CTA research that highlights consumer concerns about security issues with smart homes.
In our policy section, i3 has exclusive interviews with both Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker who talks about trade and how the TPP will benefit the U.S. as
well as Rep. Fred Upton who discusses innovations in the self-driving car space.
And we consider if hearing aids could become the next wearable as the Food and
Drug Administration (FDA) may change its rules to make it easier for consumer
technology vendors to establish a foothold in this multi-billion dollar market.
