5G Day

CTA hosted 5G Day in Washington DC
on February 28 with a standing room
only crowd in attendance. FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr broke news about
an upcoming FCC proceeding to ease
infrastructure rules that will allow for
faster 5G deployment. CTA members
spoke about their companies' 5G plans in
a panel moderated by POLITICO's Tech
Reporter, Margaret Harding McGill.

members and industry. CTA works to safeguard new technology and innovative online platforms from overreaching mandates and outdated rules in local, state and federal governments.
Drone Testimony

CTA's Nathan Trail testified on January
24 before the Virginia Senate Courts of
Justice Committee in support of VA
SB526. CTA supports this bill to continue
stopping local governments from regulating the use of privately owned unmanned
aircraft. While current Virginia law stops
local governments from enacting drone
laws, this regulation ends July 1, 2019.
SB526 promotes the safe and clear operation for drones and avoids local laws
that make it difficult for the UAV
(unmanned aerial vehicles) industry. The
bill also ensures that authorized UAV
operators can operate drones in Virginia
as long as they follow federal regulations.

NAFTA

CTA continues to advocate for
a renegotiated NAFTA that maintains open markets and advances
proposals for digital trade, cross
boarder data flows and balanced
copyright. CTA is also advocating
positions involving rules of origin in
support of our auto member companies. The next round of NAFTA
negotiations is slated for the end of
March in Washington, DC. If your

At CES on the Hill, policymakers experience how technology and pro-innovation
policies benefit the U.S. economy. The event
will be held in Washington, DC in the
Rayburn House Office Building on April 16.
This annual event gives policymakers,
members of Congress and their staff, as well
as the media, the opportunity to engage
with technology businesses.
On April 17, the Digital Patriots Dinner
will honor industry and government leaders for their constructive impact on the
consumer technology industry. The 2018
award recipients are Reps. Susan W. Brooks
(R-IN) and Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY). CTA's
14th annual Digital Patriots Dinner will be
held at the Smithsonian American Art
Museum and National Portrait Gallery.
