Inspiring
Stories
It's no surprise that companies save their best and most
exciting products, services and apps to debut at CES.
Innovation spans all categories at the show with companies
bringing a range of unique business models as well.

 W

ith more than 1,000 startups,
the Eureka Park Marketplace -
sponsored by the National
Science Foundation and Techstars -
exemplifies the energy, tenacity and
drive of visionaries that want to make
their mark on the world. In this issue,
our editors tracked down 10 startups at
Eureka Park, highlighting the latest
in pet tech, augmented reality, drones,
wellness monitoring, smartphonecontrolled robots and immersive virtual
reality training for athletes.
i3 also talked with nine impressive
women who are making a positive difference in tech and are improving the world.
They represent a group rich in diversity:
two congresswomen focused on technology, two authors who launched their
book, Applied Artificial Intelligence, at CES,
and five women leading rising startups.
Their businesses include promoting educational STEM for children in India, combating
food allergies, using drones to improve
safety and increase revenues, and a sensorized device to stop hot car deaths
developed by an 83-year-old entrepreneur
with a passion to save infants. Their
journeys will inspire you.
Car tech also was huge at CES with
automakers and their tech partners stressing key themes set to converge: artificial
intelligence, user experiences and humanmachine interfaces, self-driving cars, and
electrification - all displayed on the show

floor in concept cars and production vehicles. Smart cities were also prominently
featured at CES 2018, as the Internet of
Things and related technologies start to
become a part of urban life enabled by 5G.
Technology developers say that public and
private partnerships will help to achieve
enhanced lifestyles.
Continuing our CES recap, read
the lively interview that CTA President and
CEO Gary Shapiro had with Federal Trade
Commission Acting Chairman Maureen
Ohlhausen at the show. They covered
a broad range of activities, from occupational licensing to consumer privacy. Our
policy section looks at the stepping stones
to 5G, CTA's new International Innovation
Scorecard and the Boulder, Colorado area
that is growing into a burgeoning tech
hub. We also examine augmented reality,
cybersecurity and the latest CTA stats on
artificial intelligence. CTA's recent study,
The State of AI, examines the growth of
artificial intelligence for enterprise, retail
and consumer applications.
To see innovation in the Asian marketplace, mark your calendars for CES
