CTA Signs White House Pledge
to America's Workers

 C

TA and its member companies are committed to addressing the nation's skills gap, growing the number of jobs, and
investing in creating a skilled 21st century workforce. Now
more than ever, U.S. tech companies are finding it extremely difficult to find the skilled talent they need.

Given lagging commodity prices and
a decline in traditional manufacturing,
governments across the country are
actively seeking to capitalize on economic
benefits from the tech sector.
To fix this problem, tech companies
must bear the responsibility to train and
upskill their existing workforce and
teach present and future employees soft
and critical thinking STEM skills. So,
who is best suited to influence education
and create training programs that align
with skilled jobs? Employers.
That's why CTA signed the Pledge to
America's Workers - a commitment to
expand programs that educate, train and
reskill U.S. workers. It is a national call
upon employers to join this initiative to
prepare Americans for 21st century jobs.
Last month, over 50 CTA board members and staff visited the White House and
attended a briefing with Advisor to the
President, Ivanka Trump, to sign the
Pledge and learn more about her commitment to non-traditional education pathways and creating greater access to
rewarding careers through apprenticeships, bootcamps, community colleges
and on-the-job training.
Ms. Trump emphasized the importance of convening voices from the public, private, education, labor and
non-profit sectors to address the skills
gap and is leading this collaboration as a
co-chair of the new National Council for
the American Worker. She applauded
CTA and its member companies for
their commitment to preparing
Americans for in-demand jobs.
"We should always prioritize investment

in our greatest asset, the American worker,
and ensure that our workforce remains the
greatest in the world," said Ms. Trump. "We
thank CTA and all of the members who are
taking that step today by signing the White
House Pledge to the American Worker."
On May 1, CTA and 42 of its member
companies officially signed the Pledge,
promising to add another 392,214 new
U.S. worker training opportunities over
the next five years. Since President
Trump announced the Pledge in July
2018, more than 50 CTA members -
including previous signatories Amazon,
Apple, AT&T, Best Buy, Deloitte, Ford,
HP, IBM, Johnson & Johnson, Microsoft,
Toyota, VISA and Walmart - have committed more than two million new
opportunities, totaling one-fourth of total
pledges.
Signing the Pledge affirms that the tech
sector is investing in the advancement of
the current and future workforce by providing individuals with more opportunities
to develop in-demand skills.
