OUR TECH
Gwinnett Medical Center is grateful
for the financial support from
the community that allows for the
purchase of advanced technology. Here is an
inside look at five recent additions at GMC.

are benefiting patients
3-D MAMMOGRAPHY
When it comes to cancer, early detection matters. 3-D
mammography from Genius, new to GMC, works by
capturing multiple images of the breast from different
angles. Unlike traditional 2-D mammography, where the
breast tissue appears as a flat image, 3-D mammography
allows for more detailed layering of images. The radiologist
can review the images in more detail to establish a more
accurate diagnosis. 3-D mammography detects 41 percent
more invasive breast cancers while also reducing falsepositive readings by up to 40 percent.
VIDEO GOGGLES
GMC's Sports Medicine Program uses a cutting-edge
technology to bolster its vestibular rehabilitation services:
RealEyes xDVR goggles. These binocular goggles allow for
observation and video recording of a person's eyes on
a computer monitor during testing or while performing
therapy. The goggles use infrared technology to allow
the therapists to record involuntary eye movement in
the dark and to detect abnormalities that might not be
visible in normal lighting. This inside look at involuntary
eye movements helps indicate how a person's brain
is processing visual stimuli so more effective therapy
methods can be implemented.
