But with patience and practice, you can find a feeling of calm and relaxation There's no shortage of stress in our world. So perhaps it's no surprise that meditation-a mind and body practice that doubles as a great stress reliever-is catching on. Some 18 million American adults have used meditation, according to the most recent statistics available from the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health. More people are trying it, but, of course, meditation isn't new. It has been around for thousands of years and has grown in popularity in the United States in recent decades.
