Flying with a baby-the mere phrase can evoke hives in the most patient of parents. The stressful scenarios are almost too many to count: What if my baby is the baby who screams throughout the flight? What if the other passengers aren't understanding? How will we keep our kid entertained when the "fasten seat belt" sign seems destined to stay on forever? And, oh my goodness, all those germs. There is no reason to panic. We talked with Shelly Vaziri Flais, MD, a spokeswoman for the American Academy of Pediatrics-and a mom of four-who shared her best tips for flying with children younger than 2. The keys, she says, are to be prepared and to recognize that everything takes longer with a child, travel included.
