Chronic pain can be the sign of a serious

one to two days before menstruation and
two to four days after menstruation isn't
typical," says Sheila Warren, Gwinnett
Medical Center's health navigator.
"And yet 1 out of 3 U.S. women who
are childbearing age have experienced
chronic pelvic pain (defined as lasting
six months or longer), with many cases
going unreported and untreated."
However, it isn't just the physical
discomfort and suffering from pelvic
pain that's cause for concern here. It's
also the fact that women may be leaving
underlying health conditions, like uterine
fibroids, endometriosis, ovarian cysts or
pelvic inflammatory disease, untreated.
"So, if you're coping with ongoing
pelvic pain, or other common symptoms
like heavy menstrual bleeding, frequent
or uncomfortable urination, backache
or leg pains, pain with intercourse,
constipation or diarrhea, one of
these conditions may be the cause,"
says Warren.

t's time that we talk about the
elephant in the room: pelvic
pain. It's something a majority of
women have experienced, but few
talk about openly.
In part, this may be the result of
pelvic pain's close ties to menstruation.
Pelvic pain, along with bloating,
constipation, headaches and lower back
pain, are often assumed to be just a part
of the monthly routine.
