HEALTHBEAT Making Your Experience Better We have designed and are implementing a new patient experience program (GEM®) at Meeker Memorial Hospital that will revolutionize each and every patient’s, family member’s or visitor’s experience when coming to our facility. This program is registered and trademarked with the federal government and is a process of designing, developing and implementing the best possible business, care delivery and physical environment to support the creation of an intuitive healthcare patient experience. There will be less confusion, more individual choice, more integrated care, easier access and a better environment for the healing process. This program will make each patient’s healthcare journey more enjoyable and engaging. Our culture will value doing the right thing while being innovative and compassionate, and by providing for an environment of an intuitive healthcare experience that is unlike any other around. We look forward to implementing this program and encourage you to see what Meeker Memorial is all about and what it is also becoming. That is care as it should be. Kyle Rasmussen, CEO Meeker Memorial Hospital Crash Course on Concussions Concussions have gotten attention lately as professional athletes speak out about their experiences. But concussions happen off the field—and to regular folks—too. Concussions are mild traumatic brain injuries that result from being hit in the head or the head striking an object, as in a car accident or a sports injury. Most concussions heal on their own in time, but others require immediate medical care. General symptoms that require close monitoring Symptoms that require immediate medical care Confusion or not thinking straight Changes in alertness and consciousness Being drowsy or difficult to rouse Seizure Headache Muscle weakness on one or both sides of the body Loss of consciousness Persistent confusion Memory loss Prolonged unconsciousness Nausea and vomiting Repeated vomiting Seeing flashing lights Unequal pupils Unusual eye movements Difficulty walking GET CLARITY ON CONCUSSIONS Want to know more?
