UMMC Midtown Campus Recognized as a Top Performer The University of Maryland Medical Center Midtown Campus has been recognized as a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures® by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of healthcare organizations in the United States. UMMC Midtown Campus, formerly Maryland General Hospital, was one of only 16 hospitals in Maryland to be honored for exemplary performance in using evidence-based interventions that are shown to improve care for certain medical conditions. UMMC Midtown Campus was recognized for the highest quality of care in treating heart failure and pneumonia and for surgical care. "We are very proud to have earned the distinction of being a Joint Commission Top Performer on Key Quality Measures," says Jeffrey A. Rivest, president and chief executive officer of UMMC Midtown Campus. "Our entire staff is committed to quality improvement, patient safety and using evidence-based practices to achieve the best possible outcomes for our patients." The Joint Commission analyzed data related to care for nine conditions: heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, surgery, children's asthma, stroke, venous thromboembolization, inpatient psychiatric services, and immunization rates for influenza. The ratings are based on data reported to The Joint Commission during the 2012 calendar year on 47 accountability measures of evidence-based care processes closely linked to positive patient outcomes. The list of Top Performers was included in "Improving America's Hospitals," The Joint Commission's 2013 annual report, which was released Oct. 30, 2013.
