umans have appreciated the healing properties of plants since the beginning of time — we may never know who gave the first facial, or where, but we can rest assured it was made from all-natural ingredients. Such ancient wisdom has not been lost on modern-day beauticians, who have incorporated everything from seaweed to fresh fruit in their treatments. But it took the fast-growing locavore movement for luxury spas to truly return to their roots. Today, as Ritz-Carlton hotels from coast to coast introduce ecofriendly gardens to their properties, their spa directors have added a welcome twist to their own freshly mixed potions, using locally grown herbs, flowers and even field crops to improve the well-being of their clients.
