If “vacation” suggests calm, escape, relaxation — a jailbreak from the everyday — then taking your kid along would seem to defeat the purpose. It isn’t that I don’t enjoy going away with Annelise, it’s just that going away invariably involves so much … schlepping. That is why when my wife, Joanna, suggested we head out of town for a short weekend, I was armed with a suggestion that would maximize our ability to lounge: Palm Beach, Fla.
